City of Houston Notifies Neighbors of Planned Project on Sue Barnett DR

Planning for Phase III has remained in extended detailed engineering well beyond when it was originally planned to have begun. We received notice in Feb. of 2025 that some or part of this project may proceed. The expectation had been that Phase III would start at the completion of Phase II which finished in late 2023. Phase III has remained on the 5 year plan but had not received funding. Recently, major projects containing some of the features such as roundabouts and bikeways have come under increased scrutiny. Projected cost for the project has risen from $18 MM to $25 MM.

Phase 2 Completed

Phase II Completed November 2023

Phase II of the major storm water management project for Garden Oaks was kicked off in 2021.

What is the purpose of this project?
The purpose of the project is to construct storm drainage improvements that address and reduce the risk of structural flooding in the area by improving street conveyance and sheet flow and providing detention, as needed, for mitigation. The benefitted area of the project includes the Garden Oaks and Shepherd Park Plaza subdivisions.
